Summer Reading

When I was in high school, the LAST thing I wanted to do was the assigned summer reading for English class.  How can you give teenagers homework over summer vacation?!

But for the past couple of weeks, I have been craving a good book to read.  Marcus works at the library on campus, so I asked him to bring home a book, but since it is mostly a research library, they don't really have much of what I'm looking for.

So, tomorrow Marcus and I are going to the Nashville Public Library to get myself a library card.  I'm really excited about checking out some mindless fiction and would love any suggestions you may have.  What's the last good book you read? Or your favorite book you've read?  I don't have a lot of criteria, I just want it to be fiction and I don't want to think too hard. :)

Also on the agenda for the weekend: getting my dress altered for my sister's wedding, a baby shower, and buying a water hose so we can wash our cars, and finally taking pictures of our house!  Please tell me we are not boring newlyweds....

Excited for your recommendations...don't let me down!

  3. I loved "Eat Pray Love," "The Time Traveler's Wife" (WAAY better than the movie, but much sadder), and anything by Jodi Picoult. Good luck!

  4. I suggest the Steig Larson series. The first one is called The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo then The Girl Who Plays with Fire and lastly The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. The first one starts a little slow but hooks you shortly thereafter.

I also recommend Water for Elephants by Sarah Gruene and anything by Mary Higgins Clark. All were very quick and exciting reads!

  5. Books - I love it! "Time Traveler's Wife" is awesome and one you should definitely read. "The Help" is the best book I have read in the last 12 months - another definite read. I have only read the first of the Dragon Tattoo series - good, and I will continue, but warning that these are darker than anticipated b/c the crimes investigated are sexual crimes. "Mountains Beyond Mountains" is a good read and mixes novel with the concepts supported by BWM.

  7. I too enjoyed "Eat, Pray, Love" and "The Time Traveler's Wife", and I hope to soon get my hands on a copy of "The Help". I also recommend "KABUL BEAUTY SCHOOL: An American Woman Goes Behind the Veil" by Deborah Rodriguez and Kristin Ohlson; and "Brick Lane: a novel" by Monica Ali. Not quite "mindless" fiction, but good nonetheless. I've also been reading a few Mary Higgins Clark mysteries (thanks to my future mother-in-law) and of course, Dean Koontz. :) I actually think you'd like Koontz's "Odd Thomas" series.
